Walk it, and
the city makes sense
Six routes, small groups, guides who actually live here.
Six routes, six New Yorks
Each one is a route we have walked and revised many times over. There is no script — guides adapt to what is actually happening on the day.
Walking
Downtown Landmarks Walk
Wall Street down to Battery Park. The streets are narrow and the history is dense — the best possible first look at New York.
Walking
Brooklyn Bridge at Sunset
Cross from Manhattan into Brooklyn in the evening. The light on that bridge is the thing in New York most worth waiting for.
Indoors
Museum Mile Highlights
The museums along Fifth Avenue. We do not rush all of them — we choose the handful genuinely worth stopping in front of.
Boat
Harbor & Skyline Cruise
Manhattan from the water. The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the whole downtown skyline in one view.
Food
Food Market Tasting
Chelsea Market and the streets around it. Six stops, six flavors, and a century of immigration eaten in order.
Photography
Night Lights Photo Walk
Manhattan after dark. Five good positions, and answers to the problems everyone hits shooting at night.
Four steps, that is all

Take a map home
Every tour ends with a printed, marked-up map so you can keep exploring on your own.
We do not work from a script
A lot of tours are one memorised document delivered identically every time. Our guides have lived in New York for years and tell you what they have actually observed — and they can answer the questions that were never in a script.
- Small groups. The cap is low so everyone can hear and everyone can ask.
- Local guides. All long-term residents, none of them seasonal hires.
- We adapt. Rain, construction, a street closure — the route changes on the spot.
- No selling. There is no point on any route where we walk you into a shop.

What people said afterwards
Our guide was not reciting a Wikipedia page — he was telling us what he had noticed over fifteen years of living here. That is a completely different thing.
We took two kids on the harbor cruise and it went perfectly. Enough to look at that nobody got bored, and the guide answered every question they threw at him.
The night photography walk was worth every penny. I only had my phone and I still came away with pictures I was proud of — plus things I have used since.

First time in New York: how to plan three days
Do not fill the list. Pick three neighborhoods, one a day, and leave the rest of the time for walking.

The subway: four things that stop you getting lost
Express versus local, uptown versus downtown, weekend diversions, and checking direction before you tap in.

Central Park: three walks you cannot get lost on
The park is 843 acres and the paths curve on purpose. These three routes each take about an hour.
